Losing toe nail due to long distance walk?

I participated in a 40 mile walk last weekend and a portion of the route was down these huge hills. As a result, the pressure on my toes caused my big toenail to come loose. I have heard about this before and am not freaked out but have questions. I clipped the top of the nail off where it was really loose but the bottom seems intact - is there a chance it won't fall off entirely? Should I be doing something besides wrapping it? ThanksLosing toe nail due to long distance walk?
my personal experience after a marathon. the top part of the nail become loose but the bottom was still intact. then after some time, the nail slowly turned black and 2 months later, the whole nail dropped off.
