I smashed my thumb 4 weeks ago, the nail is all black and feels funny. How long before a new nail grows in?

It depends on each person. Could be a couple of months until it looks completely normal. You can relieve some of the pressure in your nail by poking a small hole in the nail over the black area. It might fall off. Next time, immediately after you hit it, pinch the end of your injured finger really hard with the other hand. It will hurt sooo bad! But it will seal off those little broken capillaries, and then you won't have to go through the pain and possibly losing your nail.

It could take a few months.
I did the same thing a couple oof years ago. It took about 2 mos. to fall off (I was in denial to the end) %26amp; another 2 mos. for it to fully grow back. It'll be very tender for a while.
A few weeks, but GO TO A DOCTOR. Ingrowing nails hurt a lot unless you take the right actions.
It will be a little while ( maybe another month) before that heals . See if you can take extra iron or fiber to your diet to help make that go away.
15 years ago I dropped a wooden pattet on my toe, I didn't go to the hospital that nail is still black today as it grows it turns black
omg same thing happened to me, don't worry I grew mine back in less that 2 months,leave it alone,if it starts to hurt or grow in go see a doctor/specialist,Otherwise you'll be fine Hope u get better:)


IT happened to me when I was12!! I cried for 2 stinkin hours cause of the pain!!!
