My nails seem to grow strong and hard, but it seems that as soon as they get to the perfect length and look great, they all start breaking! I use a good protein strengthener regularly....... what else can I do? It's all in the care. I use Sally Hansen's complete care once a week. It's available at most drugstores for $12. Before I use to be like you my nails would grow out then break off, and so I did a little research. Proper nutrient gives your body what it needs to maintain strong and healthy nails. Also don't use your nails to pic at each other (I use to have this bad habit) it makes the nails weaker, just use the nail pic on a metal nail file. Also when you need to file your nails only file in one direction this will keep them from getting weak. I also like to cut mine once every 3 months in order to have them grow out healthy again, by doing this they keep growing back stronger than before. But if you do cut your nails don't do it too often because cutting your nails with a nail clipper creates shock to your cuticles, which in the long run isn't good for the nails. Instead if possible just file them, but as I said before in one direction. Also don't change your polish (if you choose to polish your nails) too much, it doesn't really help the nail because when you use the nail polish remover to remove the polish it dries out the nails. Finally when ever exposing your nails to water for a long period of time (say a shower) the nails feel weaker so I would suggest to avoid anything that might put your nails at risks for a few minutes after exposure to water.Hope this helps!Ladies with long natural nails: How do you keep the nails from breaking once they are long?
i have long nails, for years I have soaked my nails in a half solution of water and vinegar. Usually while watching TV (then I dont munch on anything either) Its safe and natural. You can save the solution for repeat uses in a jar....You can also recycle the solution by using it to wash a mirror or windows.....
another suggestion might be that your problem is you are lacking vitamins
either problem can be fixed
you know i had the same problem as well, my nails would always chip from the bottom.. but i never used a nail strengthener..one of my friend advised always keep ur nails painted with any nail polish, but just always keep them painted, because that some what helps prevent the nail from chipping off..maybe you do keep your nails painted all the time.. but maybe another advice would be.. don't grow them super long..try to keep a normal okaish Length because if ur nails are long there gonna break some how sooner or later.. sometimes nails don't have to be really long to look good.. i guess i would say.. try to keep them at a okay length where there wont be no worries for them chipping off.. hope it helps..

Have someone help you by giving treats or putting peanut butter on their fingers for dog to lick off ( a great distraction). Then in a week, do it again and keep repeating until you get them down. Or, if you have to have help from the vet this time, try the bath and peanut butter trick in a few weeks. If the dog begins to associate nail-cutting with something good happening it will help a lot.

You need to clip their nails. The nails will curl under and make it uncomfortable for them to walk. Do not cut them too short or you will cause their toes to bleed. If you need help take the pig to the vet to show you how. Good luck!maybelline

I got my nails done last Friday and I start next week and going to be doing alot of typing is there any way to make them come off faster without soaking them forever. on their own .. usually 2-3 weeks . they have stuff you could buy at the store . i think its called acrylic nail remover. its pretty cool its like a cup .. a big cup type thing and u just rub your nails in it and they come right off . its pretty quick and easy . just ask someone at a store if they have it . i think i got mine at cvs. :]How long does it take for acrylic nail to come off.?
to let them grow out? practically forever. if you want them to come off, make sure you get 100% acetone, instead of regular polish remover... you'll get them off in 15 minutes or less. =D

They naturally come off in 3-4 weeks. I don't know if there's a faster way, but you can get them shortened to make the typing easier.
there really isnt a good way to get them off
so you can go to the nail place and they can take them off
or pull them off
or soake them yourselfs
like a month in a half but you have to be carful with the tools they use or bring your own because some peoplee get infected

They naturally come off in 3-4 weeks. I don't know if there's a faster way, but you can get them shortened to make the typing easier.

so you can go to the nail place and they can take them off
or pull them off

If you are not that expierenced in cutting a dogs nail i let the vet do it cause they know what they are doing and after all they are profesionnalllss. Depends on the dogs nail. White color ones are more easier to cut then the black ones. The black ones are alot tougher and requires much more patience and a more heavy duty clipper. Dont cut too much. Like a tiny bit will do casue some dogs have sensistive paws and if u cut to much it will hurt them.

I usually dremel instead of clip but either way is easy and it is important that you do it regularly with the puppy so that it gets used to it and you can keep the nails trimmed back. Losing toe nail due to long distance walk?
I participated in a 40 mile walk last weekend and a portion of the route was down these huge hills. As a result, the pressure on my toes caused my big toenail to come loose. I have heard about this before and am not freaked out but have questions. I clipped the top of the nail off where it was really loose but the bottom seems intact - is there a chance it won't fall off entirely? Should I be doing something besides wrapping it? Ive recently started to grow my nails but it's turning rather tricky and i'm not quite sure what to do with them, or what products to use on them. You should regulary massage them, this promotes nail growth. when varnishing, always apply a base oat and top coat. when filing, file from side to center, not side to side as this weakents nails,.
Try this specialised treatment we do at my salon...
fill a bowl with hot water and stand a (smaller bowl) of almond oil (olive oil if your allergic to nuts) in the hot water untill its quite warm. then soak your finger tips in it for 10 minuits. doing this regularly will moiturise the nail, and cuticle.
Also remember that your nails are not tolls, so dont use them as though they are,. And you should always wear gloves or a barrier cream for dirty work (gardening.etc) or work with chemicals ( washing up, hairdressing)Who knows how to keep your nails long, and looking good?
You should be eating foods that contain calcium for healthy nail growth such as milk , cheese , eggs and green vegetables. Use a proper nail scissors to cut them regularly. Don't overshape them at the sides and don't chew your nail or the surrounding skins. Use the nail file and the nail buffer.

wash them while your in the shower. like when you are washing your hair, scrub your scalp to get the dirt out from under them. use a nail filerer to keep down the rough edges. then put some nail polish or clear polish over them to keep them strong.
dont do any housework and dont use the car cig lightermaybelline

probably a good while as long as its not stored in really high or low temperatures. Shake well and if it's a little thick when you open it, add a little bit of nail polish remover to thin it (just a tiny bit!) and give it a good shake. Well it depends on if they are real or fake.
Real long nails are much sharper, better for back scratches and untying knots.

Well it depends on if they are real or fake.
Real long nails are much sharper, better for back scratches and untying knots.
Really bad for picking your nose or popping facial flaws. You'll always tear your skin with real nails popping pimples.

Better than a Pedipaw is a Dremel tool. If your dog's nails are very long, it will probably be best to clip them first, and then smooth them with the Dremel.
You can buy a Dremel with a lot more power than a Pedipaw for around $20.00. You can even use a search engine on the proper way to dremel nails so that you do not accidently cause discomfort (the same rules apply to using the Pedipaw, too).
Your vet can cut the nails into the quick -- this will probably require light sedation. Once a dog's nails have been allowed to grow very long, it's very hard to get the blood vessel to recede to get the nails back to healthy length.
Once you get the nails short, it only takes a minute or so every 2 weeks to maintain them.
It doesn't matter whether you're clipping, Pedipawing, or Dremmeling, hitting the quick is going to hurt your dog.

I have one of those too, but found that I had to take my dog for a professional nail cut first, and then use the pedipaws just as a touch up. If they are really long take your dog to a groomer just to get them shortened, after that you can just do the maintenance to keep them short. I think that the pedipaws is a good idea for small dogs, but not for bigger breeds.
If the dog's nails are very long, that means the quick (the nerve) is also very long. Grinding the nail is a good option since the heat of the grinder can cauterize the quick, stopping the bleeding if you grind too far. It will take a long time. If the nails are in very bad shape already, you may want to take the dog to a groomer who can grind the nails for you, or take your dog to the vet's office. These people will have a better idea how short to cut the nail, and if they hit the quick, will have the appropriate supplies on hand to stop the bleeding. Plus your dog won't become afraid of you. When the nails are too long, you won't be able to take much off of them. My black nailed dogs go to the vet's office for their nail trims (in fact we are going today). I won't touch this one.
If you do proceed with the nails and hit the nerve and it bleeds, cornstarch or flour will help stop the bleeding. You can also get a product from the pet store called Quick Stop (it is styptic powder).

Do you know long lasting nail polish?
I've found Revlon longer lasting than others. It's also more difficult to get off when you want to remove it.Do you know long lasting nail polish?

My nail poilish keeps rubbing off long after its dry, why?
I have put sealing coat polish on them, over coat polish on them, shining polish, and more. Why does it keep rubbing off? Im not that girly girl so I cant tell if I did it right. In the evolutionary scale, they were a man's built in tools, foraging for food, etc.
Cut them up to a millimeter on the sides and 2 cms in the middle. Clean with a soapy solution or a quick 10 minute soak in water with a little soap or non phosphate detergent. Use a nail file to remove stains from everyday chores. Buff and polish with emery boards.

i got solar nails instead of acrylic and they lasted a really long time. They didn't chip or fall off or anything. And they were really comfortable too, they didn't feel fake.
I had mine on for a month, but every 2 weeks you have to go get them filled and trimmed off so they don't look bad..

It depends on each person. Could be a couple of months until it looks completely normal. You can relieve some of the pressure in your nail by poking a small hole in the nail over the black area. hard and painful as it may seem at the moment u are gonna have to just struggle on with your pain and cope as best u can .....its going to be tough for a few weeks waiting for that nail to grow long and beautiful again ... but trust me when i say time is a great healer .... i have been the victim of a broken nail yes a low down broken nail blood and everything !!! ... i feel your pain and just remember ..... u are not alone in your suffering .....

It depends on each person. Could be a couple of months until it looks completely normal. You can relieve some of the pressure in your nail by poking a small hole in the nail over the black area. It might fall off. Next time, immediately after you hit it, pinch the end of your injured finger really hard with the other hand. It will hurt sooo bad! But it will seal off those little broken capillaries, and then you won't have to go through the pain and possibly losing your nail.

Ditto to Elizabeth. I have long nails and have worn contacts for 15 years. I use the side of my right thumb and ring finger to take contacts out. So, take your open hand, and pinch thumb and ring finger, with the inside of your hand facing towards you and your nails pointing straight up. Use the sides of the top 1/3 of your fingers to pinch the contact and pull out.How do you take contact lenses out with long nails?
I have long nails and do not like removing contacts with my nails so I purchased this the contact 2 lens remover. It works really well. I can remove them with my fingers by using the side of my thumb and index finger, but this is so much easier.

well believe it or not...GARLIC!!! it's true. And also, your nails will grow if you DON'T BITE! I hate painting them like a dark color because if they're short it just accentuates that, so I paint mine clear.
